The Best UK Holidays for Brits To Take

UK

It used to be that all Brits (well, nearly all Brits) would take their holidays within the borders of the UK. After all, flights were expensive, and international countries weren’t as accommodating for international visitors as they are today. But then, with the rise of cheap flights, things began to change. Today, many people look exclusively to foreign lands for their travels. There are good reasons for looking closer to home, however. The coronavirus pandemic means that overseas trips may not be on the agenda for a while. And in any case, there are plenty of awesome UK holidays to take, as we’ll come to see. Take a read below and begin planning your next domestic adventure.

City Hopping

It doesn’t always feel like it when you live here, but the UK really does have some of the world’s best cities. There’s a reason why so many millions of people come here from other corners of the globe, after all! London, for example, could rightly be regarded as the world’s best city; it is certainly up there with New York, Tokyo, Paris, and other giants. The smaller cities make for excellent weekend trips too. Have you discovered all the joys of Liverpool, for example, or Newcastle, Edinburgh, or Bristol? Take a trip, and you might just be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

Into Nature

We tend to think of the UK as being a pretty “built-up” place. Indeed, ask someone to draw a snapshot of the UK, and they’d probably draw a city or general urban area. But actually, this isn’t what the UK’s really like. Around 90% of the UK is green — that’s no streets, no buildings, no anything — which means it’s an excellent place to spend some time in the outdoors. When the weather is fine, look at packing your camping supplies and heading to the Lake District or Southwest for a couple of days of camping.

Self-Catering Retreats

If you like the idea of spending time in a more natural, quiet setting but don’t fancy camping, then take a look at other options. Static caravan holidays provide an excellent self-catering option within the UK. Whether it’s just you and your partner or you bring the whole family along, you’ll find that there’s much to enjoy from spending a week or so soaking up all there is to love about a caravan holiday in the outdoors.

Exploring the Other Nations

It’s always worth keeping in mind that the UK consists of four nations, and while there are similarities between all of them, they all have their own quirks too. If you’ve been in your own country for too long, then take a look at visiting one of the other ones. There’s much to love about England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Even different parts of the same country can be a little different; there are plenty of differences between the north and south of England, for example. They’re all accessible by car, too, making it the perfect for a road trip adventure.
